Abstract:

Analyzing contemporary issues of Global Warming, the paper deals with Kalidas’s  Kumarasambhava. It discusses the problem of Global Warming earlier raised by an Indian writer in Sanskrit. Focusing on the worst effects of the problem, the epic symbolically suggests the effects of the violation of nature and natural flora and fauna. Today the globalization is a big challenge to the world. It is right that we have been availed with advanced technology and super-developed machines due to the fast and furious process of modernization and globalization. But we should not forget that it comes with many hazards  problems. In the race of development we have forgotten the laws of the nature. We use the natural resources excessively. We use electricity and other powers to win the race. In the contemporary context, USA and other highly developed and technologically advanced countries are like Brahma suggesting the developing countries to join in the race and do as much capitalist and materialist acts as they can. The tragedy of the matter is that a man is now a machine or a product in the present era of mechanization. The Asian countries and the developing nations, acting like Indra, have taken the challenge to produce as much product as they can without taking the care of the natural laws of the world. We, the people are the instruments in the hands of some mechanized Gods who can create miracles on the post-modern globe. We are used as products and are prompted or injected to run fast. We act like Kama, Rati and Madan to produce the effects of hypnotic and illusive modern world. The result is obvious. We are facing natural calamities. We are facing dangers from the natural world. It will lead to the destruction of the animal world. We destroy the forests for the sake of producing energy. We violate the rules and regulations of the natural phenomena. Therefore it is significant to note Kalidasa, in this ancient epic, warned us against any violation of the Prakriti (nature).
