Gujarat is witnessing a major reform in higher education nowadays, with the forth coming introduction of the choice-based credit system (CBCS) in all the nine universities of the state.

The present review was carried out keeping in view the diploma engineering faculty running with the semester & credit system. The objective was to review the diploma engineering faculty running with semester & credit system. For, the review 32 faculties of Government Polytechnic, Godhra were selected as a sample.

Personal Interviews, observations and an Opinionnaire was used to collect the data. The data was analyzed using qualitative method for personal interview and observation, and for Opinionnaire percentage and chi-square was used.

The findings based on observations of the Semester and CBCS were as follows:

(1) The system has allowed students to study subjects of their choice along with the core subjects of their faculty.

(2) It is an instructional package developed to suit the needs of students to keep pace with the developments in higher education and the quality assurance expected of it in the light of liberalization and globalization in higher education.

The findings based on Interviews of the Lecturers regarding the Semester and CBCS were as follows:

(3) Most lectures agreed on the statement that “The Semester System help their student evaluate their gradual progress in the field they study.”

(4) The teaching faculty is happy with the Semester System as they can keep themselves update with the subject they teach.

The findings based on Opinionnaire of the students regarding the Semester and CBCS were as follows:

(5) Most students agreed on the statement that “They don’t have to remember their subject till the Year End Exam.”

(6) Students could get rewards in the form of Credits as they pass their subject by subject in each Term End Examinations.
