Abstract:

The teaching profession is having four components (1) Learning (2) Teaching (3) Extension and (4) Research. Out of these four, Extension work can contribute a lot for teaching and research work. It is not essential that a teacher devotes his / her time and energy for all these four. He / She can either select extension work or research work over and above learning and teaching. However extension work may help in undertaking meaningful and relevant research. Many universities have started doing this. Extension work brings a teacher and a student to the real life drama at the same time bond between teacher and student is strengthened. Subjects especially in the areas of social sciences become frank and open mined while responding to the survey work. This happens because subjects start taking the teacher and students as their own persons. Hence survey and research become reliable.
