Abstract:

The literature suggests strong dependence between money and output both theoretically as well as empirically. Under the premise of this linkage an attempt has been made to represent the picture of real economy using financial statistics for the year 2009-10. An assessment of the performance of the state of Gujarat through information available from banking statistics has been made.

We found that though Gujarat advances higher to industry of its total advances than that of national level, it has deposit wise 9 and credit wise 5 centres only amongst top 100 centres respectively. Yet the CD ratio of Gujarat is higher than that of India level. One of the important reasons could be that the district wise CD ratio shows the high economic activities in the all regions except Navasari and Anand districts.
