Abstract: 

The tourism industry ofIndiais economically important and is growing rapidly. TheWorld Travel & Tourism Council calculated that tourism generated INR6.4 trillion or 6.6% of the nation's GDP in 2012. The sector is predicted to grow at an average annual rate of 7.9% from 2013 to 2023. This gives India the third rank among countries with the fastest growing tourism industries over the next decade. Tourism is considered as an engine of growth for Himachal Pradesh. Shimla the capital of this state is blessed with natural beauty. During the year large number of tourists comes to Shimla to watch the rare culture of Shimla and to feel the nature within it. Shimla is receiving more number of tourists then its population every year. In the year 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 it received 21,83,384, 24,96,049, 28,28,083, 32,04,400, 30,02654 respectively visitors i.e. from 2009 till 2012 there is an increasing trend in numbers of tourists in Shimla but in the year 2013 it is realized that the number of tourists had decreased. One of the main reason is the event of land sliding in kedarnath and others are dissatisfaction related to the tourists facilities available in Shimla such as transportation, internet, communication, parking facilities, etc. which is required to be improved early by the Shimla authority. Tourism is the mode of earning in the state in different forms like travel agency, tour operator, hotels, motels, resorts, home stays, recreation centres, guides, etc. The study focuses on to assess the various facilities available to the tourists in Shimla also to examine the satisfaction level of tourist in Shimla. The study tries to investigate the present problems being faced by the tourists and to provide suggestions how to overcome such problems.
