Abstract:

This paper deals with the results of pre concentration studies to recover total heavy minerals from beach and dune sand samples collected from marine drive of Konark –Puri by using an advanced air cyclone in combination of Dry High Intensity Magnetic Separator (DHIMS). The sample contains 16.7% Total Heavy Minerals (THM) and 83.3% of light minerals. Out of 16.7% THM, pyriboles are about 0.32%. The results of these studies reveal that about 63% of light minerals, such as quartz and light heavy minerals such as pyriboles and small amount of sillimanite can be rejected by which use of fresh water in spirals can be minimized.
