Abstract:

Adolescence is a period of rapid growth and change in physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. Adolescents also deal with changing mood, withdrawal, anger and helplessness. In this stage, adolescents need to understand their feelings for the better management of their emotions. The field of Emotional Intelligence includes abilities to identify, understand and manage emotions in oneself and in other people. Emotional intelligence (EI) is a relatively new and growing area of behavioral study. The researcher had developed Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS) and standardized it with reliability and validity tests. In the present study an attempt was made to evaluate emotional intelligence among adolescents of different boards i.e. Gujarat Board and Central Board. Total 1184 students of eighth and ninth standard were selected randomly for assessment of emotional intelligence from schools of Surat city. To effectively anchor this purpose, three hypotheses were tested at 0.01 or 0.05 level of significance. The significant difference was checked for different boards, standards and gender. It was found that Central Board students and female students were emotionally more sounds than Gujarat Board students and male students respectively.
