PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS OF TASKS IN THE EXERCISE BLOCKS OF MATHEMATICS TEXTBOOK OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF UGANDA

Abstract: 

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the tasks included in the exercise blocks of a mathematics textbook of secondary school of Uganda for performance expectations. The tasks in the textbook (Secondary School Mathematic Students’ Book 2) were analysed using a framework developed from TIMSS mathematics framework 2011. 403 out of 836 tasks presented in the textbook require computing, 252 out of 836 require reasoning, 187 out of 836 require students to perform graphing, 94 out of 836 necessitate memorization of mathematical facts and 39 out of 836 require students accompany the answers with some explanation in word form.
