Assessment Of Soil And Water Quality With Reference To Benthic Communities Of Purna, Navsari, Gujarat

The present investigation aimed to assess the benthic communities with respect to physico-chemical characteristics of water & soil in the Intertidal and fresh water region of Purna, Navsari, Gujarat. The study carried out for the period of 5 months (May-2008 to Sept-2008).The physico-chemical parameters selected for the study were soil moisture, WHC, soil nutrients, organic matter Epiflora was dominated by Diatoms. In Faunal community Polychaete worm, Nematodes, Turbellarian, Molluscans, Mud crab and Mud skipper were found.

Study On Shrimp Farming Technique In Gujarat State

Shrimp farming has been practiced in India for centuries on a traditional manner in certain coastal state. Scientific shrimp farming was developed during the early 1980s. Thousands of hectares of coastal lands were converted into shrimp farming. Shrimp farming activities in Gujarat state are also not uncommon at present.  Gujarat is having 1,600 km long coastline and a vast stretches of brackish water area throughout the coastline which is ideal for shrimp culture.  Shrimp farming activities developed fast in the last decade.
